The theme for this year’s conference seminars is Innovations in Boat Systems. Topics will include:
- Latest developments in marine electrical products – from Blue Sea Systems
- New prop shaft seals and bearings – from Duramax Marine
- LED marine lighting explained – from RIGID Industries
- Boat construction using composite cores – from Gurit

10:30 am Annual General Meeting
There is a recommendation from the Board to change Article 9 in NSBA’s bylaws; this article establishes the organization’s fiscal year. Anyone who would like more information prior to the AGM can contact Jan at 902-423-2378 or email@example.com.
A new Board of Directors will be elected. Anyone interested in serving on the Board of Directors is asked to complete a Board Nomination form and return it to Jan no later than February 25, 2019.

1:05 pm to 1:50 pm – Seminar: New marine electrical products – Blue Sea Systems
Today’s commercial and recreational boats have increasingly complex electrical systems on board. Boatbuilders and Marine Service Technicians have to install them for safe and effective service – and ensure they meet industry standards and national regulations. Blue Sea Systems will be reporting on their new marine electrical products, and explaining how they fit into ABYC standards and requirements.
Presenter: Sean Sears, Eastern Regional Sales Manager, Power Products
Sean Sears has spent the past 27 years in the marine industry in various capacities including retail, wholesale and manufacturing of marine electrical and electronic navigation and communication devices. For the last 6 years he has had sales responsibilities for Blue Sea Systems and the Power Products portfolio of electrical brands for the US and Canada. Sean has been partnering with ABYC in the US these past 2 years – assisting with continuing education classes around the country. Sean is an ABYC Certified Marine Electrical Technician.
Blue Sea Systems will be displaying examples of their marine electrical products.

2:05 pm to 2:50 pm – Seminar: LED lighting explained – RIGID Industries
LED lighting for commercial and recreational boats has many advantages over traditional lighting. RIGID Industries specialize in all types of LED lighting and will be reporting on latest developments for the marine industry – as well as explaining some technical performance aspects of the technology.
Presenter: Dave Dixon, President, RIGID Industries
Dave has more than 30 years of unique sales, marketing and executive/business management experience, developing and implementing strategic plans that have increased sales and profits for a number of companies. Dave has been the President of RIGID Industries for the past two years, helping the company introduce new and innovative products and exceed their sales & profitability goals.
Prior to joining Rigid, Dave most recently led the marketing efforts for Warrior Sports, a subsidiary of New Balance Athletics. He has also held several Director, VP and President & CEO level roles with companies including Miller Brewing Company, Deloitte Consulting, New Whey Nutrition, the Stroh Brewery Company, andIBM.
Dave has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michiganand obtained an MBA from Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
RIGID Industries will be displaying examples of their LED lighting products.

3:05 pm to 3:50 pm – Seminar: New developments in shaft seals and bearings
Prop shaft seals and bearings are crucial to the safe and efficient operation of any boat – commercial or recreational. Duramax Marine will be reporting on exciting new developments in their range of seals and bearings for the type of fishing boats being built in Canada’s Maritimes.
Presenter: John Gabriel, Territory Sales Manager, Duramax Marine
As a Territory Sales Manager with Duramax Marine, John Gabriel covers the East Coast and Great Lakes Region. Duramax Marine is a world-leader in engineered solutions that manage vibration, heat, friction and impact. A 2013 graduate of Youngstown State University, John has been with Duramax Marine in Hiram, Ohio for nearly 4 years. He was born and raised in South Florida before moving with his family to Ohio in 2000. A collegiate rugby player for the University of South Florida, John still enjoys watching rugby when he can. As a child, John’s fascination with reptiles – alligators specifically – got him in quite a predicament when he was chased by a 6’ alligator at a lake across from his family home.
Duramax Marine will be displaying examples of their shaft line products.

4:05 pm to 4:50 pm – Seminar: Boat Construction using Composite Cores
More boatbuilders are now using composite cores in boat construction instead of plywood. Ensuring proper connections and structural details are important to optimize the advantages of core. Gurit will be providing some best practice construction details using examples commonly found in fishing boat construction.
Presenter: Jean Pierre Mouligné, Senior Account Manager, Gurit
Jean Pierre Mouligné was born and raised in France and came to the US in the late eighties. He has been working in the composites industry for more than 35 years.
At RP Associates, then with Gurit, JP has been involved in all aspects of composite manufacturing from hand layup, spray-up, infusion and pre-preg boat construction.
Currently Marine Market Leader for Gurit, JP travels extensively in North America and abroad to help marine customers make the best use of Gurit core materials and pre-preg products.
JP is a lifelong sailor and was the Class 2 winner of the 1998-1999 around the world solo race known as the “Around Alone”.
Gurit will be displaying examples of their composite core products.
