Introduction to Composites Fabrication
September 13 - November 5
To combat existing labour shortages for entry-level composites workers in Nova Scotia, the NSBA is working with various partners to offer a free Introduction to Composites Fabrication Course for unemployed and underemployed people who are interested in joining the industry.
Trainees will complete an 8-week course, including hands-on training hosted by three South Shore companies (RPS Composites in Mahone Bay, Stelia North America in Lunenburg, and Dagley’s Boatworks in East Lahave), for a comprehensive introduction to the various composite fabrication processes.
Once completed, a Document of Achievement will be awarded and program attendees will be able to work in aerospace, boatbuilding or general composites fabrication. More than a dozen companies have sent letters of interest in hiring people after the course.
The application deadline for the Fall program is August 13 2021. Those interested can contact NS Works to start their application or email Richard Lindala, NSBA’s Training and Certification Coordinator, at email@example.com.
A winter program is being planned for the Yarmouth/Meteghan area from January to March 2022. The course may be offered in other parts of Nova Scotia in future depending on demand.
