The Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association is hosting its 2021 Annual General Meeting and Mini-Conference in person at Pictou Lodge in Pictou, NS. If you are unable to attend in person, we will be offering a virtual option as well. Click the link for zoom information.
As announced in the recent Save the Date this event is taking place on September 8 & 9th.
Wednesday, September 8
6:00 pm – 10:00 pm – We will kick off the event with an evening reception on Wednesday, September 8. We will exclusive access to the Oceanview Dining Room for the reception where there will be a cash bar and a variety of hors d’oeuvres and other foods.
Thursday, September 9
The AGM and Mini-Conference will be held the following day on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

Title: Making Immigration Part of Your HR Plan
Presenter: Rohan Christian, NSBA
As many employers struggle to find and retain an adequate supply of workers, many are looking to immigration as a source of employees. This session will explore the value of including immigrants in your workforce, immigration program pathways, employer responsibilities, and how the NSBA can support employers as they navigate immigration opportunities and challenges.

Title: Youth Engagement Update
Presenter: Jan Fullerton, NSBA
At our 2018 Annual Conference, we had a panel talking about best practices for engaging youth. We continue to hear of challenges and in 2020-21, we conducted a survey and held focus groups to better understand youth perceptions of our industry. We’ll share the results of those findings and some recommendations for employers as well as discussing NSBA initiatives to address barriers identified in this research.

Title: Blending History with Training Today
Presenter: Board Members / Volunteers from the Ship Hector Project + NSBA Team Members
Join team members from the NSBA and the Ship Hector project for an on-site, personalized tour of the restoration project at Hector Heritage Quay. This will include information about the work being done on the Ship Hector replica and a discussion of the training opportunities this project might present for teaching entry-level skills in the boatbuilding and marine repair industry.
Member rate: $75 plus HST.
Non-member rate: $150 plus HST
Registration includes access to reception, AGM and conference sessions. There will be a cash bar at the reception on the 8th as well as plenty of hors d’oeuvres.The registration also includes breakfast, break snacks and lunch on the 9th.
